In-Line UV & Turbidity

PendoTECH offers In-line Single-Use UV Absorbance and Turbidity measuring and monitoring tools. These tools collect data from bioprocess fluid streams during processing, reducing disruption compared to offline measurements.

The Single-Use UV Flow Cells with a compact PM2 photometer and fiber optic cables measure UV absorbance in filtration and chromatography applications without product contact. The Turbidity Flow Cells and PM2 Photometer measure the turbidity of unclarified material from a bioreactor or fermentor or after it flows through a filter, providing consistent filter performance monitoring.

The Single-Use UV Flow Cells are cost-effective for disposable applications but can be cleaned and reused. The UV and Turbidity transmitters can be integrated into a monitor with data acquisition capability or a control system, offering a 2-in-1 solution. A dual-wavelength unit is available for increased versatility, and two parallel measurements can be made with one flow cell.

Experience the efficiency of PendoTECH’s In-line Single-Use UV Absorbance and Turbidity measuring and monitoring tools in your bioprocess operations.

PendoTECH Single Use UV Absorbance Sensors
In bioprocess operations, the UV absorbance of a liquid solution can identify either the absence or presence of the molecule of interest. The measurement, typically at 280nm, is made by a spectrophotometer either in-line or off-line in a cuvette. A collimated beam of light passes through a sample with a defined path length, and the absorbance is determined as the ratio of the light applied from the source to what passed through the sample. The PendoTECH Single-Use UV Flow Cell enables the measurement to be made non-invasively. It is cost-effective for single-use applications and can be repeatedly cleaned and reused. The flow cell is easily integrated into tubing, and the measurement is made using a compact photometer with fiber optic cables. This flow cell contains a special glass window on the wall and compartments to attach the light source and detector. The stream to be measured flows between the windows through tubing attached to the hose barb ends of the flow cell.

PendoTECH Turbidity Flow Cell & Measurement Unit
In bioprocess operations, the turbidity of the liquid after a filter can be measured as an indication of filter performance. It can also be used to measure unclarified material directly from a bioreactor or fermentor. The measurement may indicate undesired components are “breaking through” the filter meaning the filter is losing its capacity. The turbidity measurement at 880nm can be used in conjunction with pressure measurements in constant flow filtration processes to give an overall measurement of filter performance. To make an online turbidity measurement, use a device such as the PendoTECH Turbidity Flow Cell versus taking a discrete sample and measuring offline.

Photometer
PendoTECH® offers a Dual Wavelength version of the PM2 Photometer, which is equipped with two LED light sources. This system is available to output 260nm, 280nm, 300nm or 880nm, and measures two wavelengths simultaneously. Measuring the absorbance of two wavelengths in the same sample has many advantages in biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing. For instance, the user could detect protein, and measure turbidity simultaneously in the same sample by using a system at 280 and 880nm. Likewise, a photometer with two wavelengths in the UV range can detect binary mixtures if the products have different absorption spectra. For example, measuring the absorbance of a sample at 280nm to detect proteins, as well as at 260nm to detect nucleic acids, and then taking the ratio, to provide an estimate of the purity of the solution.
